广东科学中心是大型公益性科普教育基地，具有科普教育、科技成果展示、学术交流和休闲旅游四大功能。
全球最大的科技馆——广东科学中心2008年9月27日正式开门迎客。经过12年的筹划和5年的建设，投资19亿元的广东科学中心建成开馆。这是由我国自行设计、自行建造的大型建筑工程，整个建设过程大量运用具有自主知识产权的自主创新成果。它在展示各项科技成果的同时，广大公众还可以身临其境，积极体验各项科技活动。
