WU Yishan holds a master’s degree (M Sc.) in Information Science, from the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (ISTIC), his former employer. He functioned as a science diplomat twice in the Chinese Embassy in USA, from 1987 to 1989, and from 1994 to 1996, respectively. He is a member of the Standing Council for the Chinese Association for Science of Science and S & T Policy. He has published more than 300 papers, among them 18 publishing in international journals such as Scientometrics, Journal of Informetrics, Interdisciplinary Science Reviews, etc. He also translated more than 10 books into Chinese, including The Sciences of the Artificial by Herbert A. Simon， a Nobel laureate, The Challenge of Scientometrics by Loet Leydesdorff, and Metrics of Science and Technology by Eliezer Geisler.
