Abstract: The article details the concepts, latest research progress, and excellent application prospect of the synthetic biology. Based on discussion of its technical and economic characteristics, the article proposes three recommendations: building national research base for synthetic biology to promote strongly basic research in the area, attaching strategic importance to the development of synthetic biology technology in China, and establishing necessary regulations and systems in areas like biological safety, ethics, and intellectual property rights.
